We had our Active schools week in June 2017 and it was a great success. We cant wait for 2018’s Active School Week in Canovee N.S.
the following is a list of the activities which took place last year.
Monday: – IRISH DANCING: The irish dancing teacher who teaches in the pupils out of school hours in our halla, came into the school and gave each class group an irish dancing lesson.
Tuesday: ABCD FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT: This was an internal Gaelic Football Tournament that is held annually in Canovee. Pupils from 3rd to 6th participate in this blitz. In 2017 the group matches were played during the months of May and June in the school field. we held the finals in our local GAA Pitch (Canovee GAA) in Carrigadrohid Village. Team B were presented with the Mrs Rita O Brien Cup. Two matches were played on the day with every child from 3rd to 6th taking part. A super day was had by all.
Wednesday: SUPERVISED WALK: on Wednesday each class teacher took their pupils on a supervised walk around the beautiful valley that surrounds our school. The children were given the opportunity to walk, talk and explore the beautiful townlands of Coolnasoon, Bawnatemple and Classes.
Thursday; SCHOOL SPORTS DAY: Thursday we held our annual Sports Day for the whole school. All pupils took part in sprints, egg & spoon, relay and sack and 3 legged races. The craic was mighty and great enjoyment and sportsmanship was shown by all the children.
Friday: EXTERNAL SPORTS COACH : Stephen Quinn is a well recognised sports coach from the Muskerry region. Stephen kindly came to our school and took each class out for their own age appriopriate coaching session. Children were engaged in stregth and conditionong games, athletics and much much more. Both pupils and teachers were taught the importance of balbnce, flexibility and hainv fun while we’re excersisng!!
It was a fantastic finish to a super Active Schools Week !!
