Last November, our school entered a garden competition organised by Muintir Na Tire.  The theme we choose was "Art in Our Garden".  We used the local landscape as a starting point. We wanted to represent the River Lee through art and choose a Tile Mosaic as our medium. The pupils of 5th and 6th classes broke the tiles, grouted them and after 2 weeks of hard work, the mosaic was eventually finished.
Another group of children had great fun painting the 'Our School Garden' sign.

A further group of 4, from 3rd and 4th classes, Michaela Shorten, Dylan Delaney, Padraig O'Riordan, Ian Flynn and Orna Mahony helped design the flower beds and also created a powerpoint presentation for the competition.

Flower seeds were planted by all classes early in the school year and then these were re potted in the various beds in early summer.  Potatoes, strawberries, onions, lettuce, spinach and plenty of weeds!! are now growing in our garden beds.

We would like to thank everybody who helped to make this garden idea a reality.

Our school has reached the final of the garden competition and we will be going to the County Hall on the 20th June next to receive our award.  We are extremely confident that our beautiful garden will win!!!
